Meet Our Farmers

Dave Lewis

Dave is a dairy farmer and member of Darigold, a farmer owned cooperative.  He and his wife, Polly, have four children: Amanda, who lives in Malibu, California with her husband Jonathon and baby daughter Abigail; Andrew, who lives in Victor with his wife Kaci and son Dash; Chris who works for a group home and lives in Missoula and Austin who is living at home and working on the family farm.

Their family farm, known as Big Creek Dairy, is located in Victor, Montana.  It was started by Dave's father, who was in the logging industry, and wanted to spend more time with his family and so began the dairy business with the purchase of dairy cows in the 1970's.  Dave grew up on the dairy farm, helping with the chores.  After college he returned home and in 1988 purchased the farm from his father beginning another generation of dairy farming.

Favorite Cow Madison

Today the family farm includes 300 Holstein Cows. The cows sleep in a freestall barn, but also enjoy the open lot.  Dave's favorite cow is Madison.  Madison was born the day Dave's daughter Amanda graduated from High School.  The calf was named after Amanda's cousin Madison who was visiting the farm that day.

Being a Dairy Farmer

"I like the cows," Dave says. "I wanted to be able to watch my children get on and off the school bus. And, it allows me to spend time with my family at home."  He also adds that his favorite time at the dairy is milking time.

In addition to being a member of Darigold, a farmer owned cooperative, Dave sits on the board of directors. His favorite Darigold products he says are Darigold Refuel and Darigold Eggnog.

Darigold, its employees and farmer members enjoy bringing fresh Northwest dairy products to people around the world.
